I'm not to great on this new Board,so bear with me.I'm probably posting at the wrong place also.This is about cataracks(?) in baby foals.My brother-in-laws foal was born Mar.19.It has an eye problem (one eye)The Vet said she had Cataracks,can this be so?Can foals be born with them or do they appear after birth.Thanks to all in advance.....Mrs Ed

Hello Carolyn,
Yes foals can have cataracts when they are born and they vary tremendously in size, location, and opacity, all of which effects the seriousness of the problem.

I have an 8 day old
tb foal who experienced profound dehydration due to patin uracus (open umbilical cord) combined with diarrhea, recovered after IV fluids, etc., but has greenish glow to both eyes and is blind. My vet says he may recover some vision. Does anyone have experience in this? Susan in Dallas
