Glaucoma represents a group of diseases of the equine eye that result in increased intraocular pressure (IOP). Because of the anatomy of the horses optic nerve it appears to be less sensitive than other species to this increased pressure but with a high enough pressure, over enough time blindness results. Glaucoma is being increasingly recognized in horses thought the over all incidence remains lower than would be expected. As tonometers are increasingly available in equine practices we should expect to increasingly recognize this condition in horses.
