My young horse has a swollen knee. I don't see any bites, but I do figure he might have bonked it on the pipe corral. There seems to be slight heat after activity. Below are links to photos and a video.

What's a girl to do???

Thank you for any advice.

How is he at the trot Patricia? If perfectly sound, bute and cold hosing would be reasonable and pressure bandaging a possibility. If any lameness you should have your vet out to check the underlying joints.

Actually, he's trotting pretty easy. I do believe the swelling is down some, but still swollen. I'll try the cold hosing sans bute and watch it.

Thanks so much.

Very good Patricia, be sure to call your vet inform him of the circumstances and get his approval, after all he knows you and your horse best. Considering leaving out the bute it is good to remember that inflammation around a joint can induce detrimental changes in the joint, NSAID's are one of your best and safest therapies for inflammation.

I appreciate that information re: bute. As of today, the swelling is almost gone and he's been using the leg with no visible difficulty throughout the week.

Thank you for the advice. I'll pass it on.
