Discussion on Rough patches in hair coat
Author Message

Dear Dr. O, My friend has a three year old Belgian mare that is in foal for the first time. Over the last month she has noticed rough patches of hair. Some of the patches actually look longer than the rest of her coat. Her vet could find nothing wrong and the mare's breeder didn't have any answers either. Any ideas what this might be caused by? Thanks for any suggestions and for your time. Cathy

Cathy,
I try to avoid first hand diagnosis but run from giving second hand diagnosis, so often much is loss in the translation. I can't count the times that we spend lots of time second hand, only to find some important piece of history is missing. Also my time is pretty much filled just trying to help members.
