  Discussion on Blood in Semen
Author Message

Posted on Monday, Aug 6, 2001 - 1:43 pm:

What are the usual causes of blood in the semen? One of our stallions is having difficulty with ejaculations: he repeatedly flowers with failure to ejaculate followed by blood dripping out of the urethra once he has softened. This is a new occurrence for him as he has been successfully breeding all season. Thanks, Ginger

Hello Mary,
Hmmm....most common would be trauma to the penis or testicles but infection, stones, or cancer anywhere in the urinary tract can cause blood. A thourough examination including urinalysis, cytological exam of the post coitus discharge, and ultrasound of as much of the repro/urinary tract as is possible might reveal the cause.
