I just heard that there is supposedly a new product that combines adequan and legend. It is called polyglycan. Anyone heard of it? I was suspicious because I do not recall seeing anything here.

Gwen,
I would like to read the reply you get on this question...a combo of adequan & legend would seem to be one heck of a great product...
Hope Dr.O woll shed some light on this.

The next step Gwen is what exactly is in the product, the concentration, the dosage, method of administration. Then we might compare it with what is known about such supplements.

Here is the information for the "Medivet" website...
Manufacturer: Arthrodynamic Technologies

Description:
Polyglycan is a patented formulation utilizing naturally occurring components of the synovia that play a central role in maintaining or returning the physiological environment of the joint to homeostasis.
Composition: Highly viscous aqueous solution of defined fractions of purified Hyaluronic acid, ChonDrOitin sulfates A-and-C in a 10% solution of N-acetyl-D-glucosamine.

Each Vial Contains:

Hyaluronic acid sodium salt..................................50 mg

Sodium chonDrOitin sulfate...................................1000 mg

N-acetyl-D-glucosamine ..................................1000 mg

Properties: Glucosaminoglycans are important components of all extracellular tissue structures including cartilage and synovial fluid. The active components in Polyglycan exhibit viscoelastic and polylonic properties similar in nature to synovial fluid. Introducing Polyglycan into the synovial space as a post surgical joint lavage will assist in the normalization of the joint following arthrotomy via these properties.

Directions: Polyglycan should be introduced as the final post surgical joint lavage only by veterinarians whose experience will determine the volume of product to be used.

Warning: For use only as a surgical lavage in animals not intended for food use.

Precautions: Store at 60-85' F (15-30' C). Discard any used portions of vials.

Packaging: Polyglycan is supplied in 10ml vials.

Gwen, you should note that the product is not designed as substitute combination product. I believe you will be able to come to a decision on the efficacy of this product for the non-label use by comparing the ingredients and dosages with the information in the articles on Legend and Adequan.

I know this is an ancient discussion, but this is a great medication. Strongly recommended for anyone looking to help hocks, ankles, or knees.
