  Discussion on ACP

We have to travel a 21 year old mare who has never travelled before. The transport operator has told us to get ACP tablets from the vet to give her 1 hr before. I think ACP is the 'ace' mentioned in the article which says not to give to old or debilitated patients. Has anyone used this? Do you think we need to give her this? Will it help her travel better? I have heard these tablets fit exactly in a polo, any other ideas - she is not allowed any breakfast.

Claire,
Since we do not know your horse, it is difficult to judge whether your horse will travel more safely or not with this drug. A healthy 21 would probably handle a reasonable dose of acepromazine OK but if she is calm about the ride it could make her unsteady, if she becomes excitable during the ride it might just be the ticket to a safer ride.
