Just facinated by that color. Have a bay/white mare that I bred to a grulla/white paint. We got a grulla breeding stock filly which is now turning grulla, what is the fillys chances of having EE.

Hello Debbie,
The E designation is used for the black pigment gene. Since both a grulla and a bay horse has the E gene but because it is dominant, we do not know if the parents are homo or heterozygous for it. Because of this I don't think we can predict the chance of the foal being EE.

Debbie - UC Davis has a test for the red gene, so for not a whole lot of $$ you can determine if she is homozygous black or not.
