Hi
the mare I bought recently lost her foal at full term/birth in May/June and ran with a stallion July to mid September. Would losing the foal prevent her from having her oetrus? I am hoping she is in foal but on one of the posts it mentioned that losing foal can affect the hormones and prevent oestrus for up to 200 days? Thanks for any info.

Hello Jo,
I don't know about 200 days but there can be prolonged period following an abortion it depends on the stage of pregnancy and to some degree the cause of the abortion Jo. Did anyone ever see the mare in heat?

No one thought to supervise her and she was only 4yrs old - her pregnancy went full term as she was last covered 22 June 07 and the foal was born and found still in sac beginning June 08 - I guess it was too weak or there were complications and no one was there to help out so it died. Would she come back into season as a normal foaling heat even though it died? I bring my mares in to foal and have foaling monitors etc so hope to avoid a repeat performance.

Following a full term pregnancy and if there were no complications that effect the mare, she should return to heat normally.
