I have a coming 2 year old Mammoth donkey I would like eventually to pasture breed to a Paint mare. They are currently running together. She is still a bit too tall for him to mount easily. Whether he gets the job done or not this year really doesn't matter. But I recently heard that a smaller stud breeding a larger mare at a steep angle can result in perforation of the vagina and rectum. I suppose anything is possible but, just how commonly does this occur. I have been pasture breeding smaller jacks to larger mares for some time and never had any problems. Have I just been lucky?

I would not worry about this, as it is not common and I am uncertain there is an increased incidence in this scenario. If it happened to someone it is easy to see why they might think it but as you say smaller jacks are bred to bigger mares all the time.

Thanks. My feelings also. Appreciate the advice.
