Hi DrO, I have a mare who we just us at day 30 my vet said it was normal for 30 days and the apearance of an umbilical cord meant it was viable.I have noticed since she's been back from the stud that she has at times had a thick whitish discharge and I was wondering ndoes a discharge always mean infecyion or is this from hormonal changes with the pregnancy.Should I report this to my vet or am I fretting for nothing.Thank you Ramona

Although I am not Dr. O, I just went through something similar just last month - a pregnant mare who at 20 days began showing a thick white opaque discharge. Had the vet out, and unfortunately, though the discharge itself didn't show an infectious culture, she had, in fact, lost the pregnancy. I would have my vet out asap to take a look.
Good luck & hope I'm wrong! Bonnie

Bonnie's right Ramona, a lot depends on what "at times" means and what you consider a "thick white discharge" but when in doubt have the vet out to look.
