Looking for help to improve my horses Canter. Robie is a saddlebred, so has a naturally higher head carriage, but a very unbalanced canter. His answer is to put his head down, and go faster.
Because every one I talk to says work on the trot, the canter will come, thats what we have done. Robie now has a great trot, in fact prefers the trot to a canter, even at speed, but that hasn't translated to a good canter.
Robie has a great jump, but until we get the canter down obviously jumping courses is a bit of a problem. He is okay cantering a line (easily makes a 12 ft line) if we trot in, but cantering in is very difficult.
I'm looking for any suggestions for exercises to improve his canter and balance.

You don't say how old Robie is but I have had young horses with a rather rough canter that turned into a beautiful canter with time, conditioning and collection.

Well-balanced feet are really important as is good saddle fit.
