I was hand walking my horse down the lane the other day and we came up to a pasture of several horses. They came running up to the fence and were very excited. My horse got real tense, put his head high and his tail went straight up, like an Arab. My question is did he do this because he was scared or wanted to play or something else? When I told him to settle and stroked his neck the tail went back down.

Maybe both. I've seen my mare do it when she is playful and when a horse is new to her...a little scared, but not toooo scared. Excited scared?
