I'm riding a quarter horse gelding, lightly built, 14.3 hh. We compete in team penning and reining. I thought I was working both sides of the horse equally, but last fall I noticed that when standing behind him, his right buttock is noticeably more developed in muscle than the left.
I'd like to adjust our training to provide more even development, but I'm not sure which exercises specifically could contribute to this. Right lead versus left? Too many spins to the right? Which moves in which direction would put all the work on this leg?

Hi Michelle,
More likely is you observed the horse from behind while he was resting one back leg, common for the horse. Be sure he is square when you make such judgements. Assuming your observation is correct, I would be suspicious you have a low grade chronic lameness on the underdeveloped side.
