I understand that horses will strike against another horse. This happened to me when another handler and I were trying to introduce our horses (geldings) in hand. The other horse squealed, struck (missed) at my horse, then turned towards me and struck (and missed). My question: will I need to be more vigilant around that particular horse, knowing that he can or will strike against a person. FWIW, the handler did not correct him. And when she tried, it was a mousy little shake of the lead rope.

Yes absolutely. Be careful ALWAYS and around ANY horse, for that matter, I think.

Hello Pat,
I have read your post several times thinking about what I might add to the above response. I think you are asking if this behavior is indicative of an unusually dangerous horse. Of course we cannot answer that question from our easy chairs with the above information but I would say the horse striking at you while fighting with another horse may not indicate an unusually aggressive horse towards humans in general. That is best read when the horse is not fighting with another horse. That said, I think increased vigilance is certainly indicated around this horse.
