Hey all ... felt guilty responding to this issue in the "spooking" thread so thought I would start a new discussion. Sean, I hope you get this post. I think you may want to check the adjustment on the hobbles, especially if your horse is developing cuts or sores. If hobbles are adjusted properly, rear legs should barely come into contact with hobbles if horse remains on pace. Also, how fast are you going. When too much speed is requested, your horse will break from the pace much like a western horse will transition from trot to lope, lope to gallop, and from gallop to run in order to find the most comfortable gait for speed required. I would suspect this to be the case since you stated that he only does it on the return trip. One more thing, if you are not racing or competing, why not just "lose" the hobbles and work on your driving to control speed and enjoy a nice buggy ride.
