DrO, My friend's horse is a Curly who she bought last yr from a person who saved him from his previous owners who were taking him to the auction to be sold for meat, said he was dangerous. New owner had him for 1yr said all they saw was he stepped away while trying to get into the saddle, trails were no problem. Horse is 9 and he has bolted with my friend 4 times. My friend is not a strong rider. The first time this happened we were on the trail and he bolted and ran through a barb wire fence then turned and came back to the other horses. Last time this happened we were on the trail. I was in the lead and had the others who were behind doing exercises. We were doing hands above the head out to the side. The cruly was behind me he is 14 hands stocky my horse is 15.1 1200 lbs. The Curly's rider was not doing the exercises. The Cruly bolted ran into me and bounced off and continued running like a jet past me and was found a long way ahead making his way back to us. This horse had just rode 6 hrs had forged a river to and from had a Navy Jet flown over head just above the tree tops and did nothing. It seems he is spooked by something from behind. I feel he is very dangerous and should not go to anyone else. Do you know if he could be helped from this problem? My friend will never get on him again. She said when he does this she feels him gather himself up. She just stepped off of him before he bolted. Like I say she is not a strong rider. Judy

Hello Judy, Of course I have no way to answer this question from behind my computer, but it certainly sounds like the rider is contributing to the problem and the horse requires professional evaluation. DrO
