I have been hearing a lot about loading horses backwards, but to front, but I haven't seen this applied to a slant load trailer. Are there any benefits to doing this in a slant load?

Hello Bryan,
They say horses travel with less stress trailering backwards, and it is easy to see why. The biggest problem a horse has to deal with is rapid deceleration and acceleration. While acceleration is generally controlled, breaking is another matter and sometimes beyond our control in emergency situations. This throws the forward facing horse onto the front legs which are already bearing most of the weight and in severe situations, may even cause the horse to bang his head. The horse with the back end first on the other hand can rest his butt against the front and is pretty much immune to such problems. Horses in slants suffer these same problems.

Thanks DrO. That made sense to me, but it's always nice to check things out. I'm new to some of this and want to do right by my horse. Learning a lot from this site. Glad I found it.
