Any of you have horse insurance that you are happy with?

I recently made a claim when my horse showed a hind end weakness. He was tested for EPM, bloodwork, vit E and selenium deficiency, full work up.... The bill was about $1,000 of which they paid $400. I figured that was pretty good... until I get my renewal notice and the premium has not only increased but they are now excluding coverage for any back pain/soreness, stifle problems, EPM and colic! The only thing he was diagnosed with was muscle soreness/stifle weakness due to training w/o proper conditioning and a Vit E deficiency. I don't get it!!!!! Why in the world would they exclude EPM ...he tested negative, that's like suspecting he has a broken leg ...getting xrays and finding out he doesn't, having the insurance company pay for the xrays but never covering a future broken leg. I don't get the logic??

My horse right now is in great condition and has no more chance of getting the excluded conditions than any other horse! He was given one shot of banamine by his trainer when he was sweating more than usual (the same day he first showed the hind end weakness) and was obviously uncomfortable. In retrospect it was due to him showing on hard ground probably having back pain but to now to exclude colic when he's never had a true episode seems a little unreasonable. Without the colic coverage the policy is pretty much useless as that's really what I fear the most.

Just ranting I guess but I guess I'll be looking for a new company so if anyone has any positive experiences (particularly if you made a claim w/o suffering stupid exclusions) I'd like to hear it. I have a phone call into them right now so they can explain their logic but ????

I'm very happy with my coverage through Cheval Insurance. They're the broker and I can't remember off the top of my head which specific company I ended up with.

My horse banged himself up in turnout and the payments were prompt and I only paid the call fee and my deductable.

Granted, this is the first claim I made and I haven't renewed yet...

Good luck!

I only have insurance from the company that has Strongid wormer. It only pays for colic.
Years ago I used Newton Bsker my horse would breath funny when doing exercise and the several vets that he saw said to scope him so I sent him to CSU and they found nothing wrong they actually said he was in great shape. They paid almost all the bill I think I paid 400. they did cancel me at the age of fifteen. He was thirteen at the time.
It still saved me a lot of money. A young horse I would insure.
