Discussion on Trainer's liability insurance question

I am thinking about starting to give riding lessons and was wondering a few things. Is it a must that I carry liability insurance or can I get by with release forms? The lessons will be given on my parent's farm. If I do need to carry insurance, do they also need to carry it? Also, what price range does liability insurance usually run? Any comments will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Much will depend on your local and state laws. It is hard to imaginge that both release forms and insurance will not be important but contact a lawyer. Important is to determine if your state has a equine endeavor limited liability law. Many states have such laws but require you post signs.

Hi Melissa,

in Canada, liability insurance is quite expensive. However, you can have it as a business expense (I think). I wouldn't give lessons without it. Especially, if you're in a civil action prone country!
